Amphibian Migration May Occur Tonight
Herpers, this is a quick note to say that there may well be amphibians moving tonight in the warmer, lower-elevation crossing areas such as those in the Lake Champlain Basin. Here in Salisbury we have lost almost all our snow on the more exposed and south-facing slopes. Many of us won’t be able to get out this evening due to a Reptile and Amphibian Scientific Advisory Group Meeting, so we will be relying on you to report whatever amphibian migration occurs.
Upcoming Herptile Events
I will be giving an in person Powerpoint presentation titled Selected Reptiles and Amphibians of the Central Green Mountains at the Unitarian Universalist Church in Middlebury on March 29th at 7 PM. The event is organized by the Middlebury Chapter of the Green Mountain Club and it is free and open to the public.
On April 9th from 7-8:30 PM I am giving an online presentation for the Vermont Land Trust titled Vernal Pool Reptiles and Amphibians. This is also free and open to the public but you must register in advance at: https://vlt.org/events/vernal-
Photos
The photo of the Blue-spotted hybrid female below was taken by Kiley Briggs. I expect some will be moving tonight in the lowlands.
The lower photo shows a Wood Frog. The photo was taken by Erin Talmage. Wood Frogs are one of the first frogs to move in the spring.
